KNEE CONDITIONS

How is the knee designed and what is its function?

Although the knee joint may look like a simple joint, it is one of the most complex. Moreover, the knee is more likely to be injured than any other joint in the body. We tend to ignore our knees until something happens to them that causes pain. As the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

To function well, a person needs to have strong and flexible muscles. In addition, the meniscal cartilage, articular cartilage and ligaments must be smooth and strong. Problems occur when any of these parts of the knee joint are damaged or irritated.

If we take good care of our knees now, before there is a problem, we can really help ourselves. In addition, if some problems with the knees develop, an examination at the Wolff Clinic can be extremely beneficial.

Cause

Knee pain can be a result of an injury to the knee joint (i.e.: from a fall). Injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursar, or tendons surrounding the knee joint. The complexity of the design of the knee joint and the fact that it is an active weight-bearing joint are factors in making the knee one of the most commonly injured joints.

Some aches and pains can arise in the knee joint, due to a misalignment in the hip joints.

Some of the more common causes of knee pain include:

  • misalignment in the hip joints.

  • injury from fall

  • repetitive strain injury

  • nerve irritation.

  • poor posture

  • sports injury

  • aches and pains from arthritis

  • knee joint misalignment

Treatments

The Wolff Clinic treatment for knee pain incorporates the use of many therapies (i.e.: Neuro Muscular Strengt Testing, NMST), all of which are gentle, safe, natural and non invasive. in most cases however, the chiropractor will use an adjustment to correct joint misallingments. An adjustment involves the gentle and specific application of a force to the joint or spine in order to allow the body to restore normal joint and nervous system function. This is pain FREE. Management of the condition may involve specific advice on exercise and rehabilitative measures as well as lifestyle and nutritional counceling.
